A simple online search for farm supply equipment will likely lead you to FencePostAg.com. Fence Post Ag offers online sales of irrigation supplies, tractor parts, spray nozzles, pruning and harvesting equipment, and many other products for farmers as well as home gardeners. And while the website is quickly becoming a great tool for the Ag community, it’s the people behind the company that rely on agriculture for their jobs.
Vaughn Brenda, CEO and founder, has grown up surrounded by the ag community. His grandfather was a peach farmer in California’s Central Valley and Vaughn’s father founded Valley Tool Manufacturing Inc. in 1969 and Valley Farm Supply Stores Inc. in 1994. As a young boy, Vaughn vividly remembers his father visiting with farmers as they stopped by their stores in need of supplies for their farm. Or, the smell of coffee and donuts offered to farmers in the wee hours of the morning as they grabbed harvest supplies before heading out to their farms. These special memories also built a deep reverence and respect for the farming industry. While watching his dad lead two companies and the characteristics of the farmers they provided services for, Vaughn learned the importance of a strong work ethic and integrity. As a young boy, he realized the amount of hard work it takes to produce the food so many Americans take for granted and knew he wanted to continue to serve the ag community like his father and grandfather have done.
Vaughn wanted to pay respect to the ag community by selecting a decidedly old-fashioned name in “Fence Post Ag” since it’s a “name every farmer can relate to.” He also recognizes that some farmers will prefer to shop at a brick and mortar store, and Fence Post Ag’s goal is not to replace those stores or relationships, which is in fact owned by its parent company Valley Farm Supply Stores Inc. which has stores in Fresno County, Madera County, Merced County, and Stanislaus County. This venture is merely an additional venue to help farmers fuel their passions and support their livelihood.
Over the last two decades the internet has opened up numerous opportunities for development and growth in a large facet of industries; however, the agriculture industry has seemingly been left behind. Vaughn started Fence Post Ag to fill that void.
Fence Post Ag employs a large number of people to service their customers. Initially focusing on nut and grape farmers, the website now offers over 13,000 items that farmers in all industries can benefit from.
After launching in February of 2016, Fence Post Ag has already received orders from people in over 30 states and has been humbled by the positive reviews. Vaughn explained, “We knew the ag community was under served with a slim selection of online farm supply offerings, but we didn’t realize so many people would be interested in our services.” Originally, Fence Post Ag thought their main markets would be California, Oregon, Arizona, and New Mexico, but the ag community has made it clear there is a demand with a majority of orders coming out of the Midwest.
It’s fair to say, Fence Post Ag’s employees depend on ag, and the ag community itself is beginning to depend on FencePostAg.com for their online farm supply needs.
