Since the Facebook group page began in May of 2015, the support and momentum has been staggering. The media is catching wind, and on Thursday, June 25, 2015, the Fresno City Council officially declared that day “My Job Depends on Ag” Day.
Co-founder Erik Wilson says he started the group page to help people outside the Valley understand how important Ag is and the enormous reach it has across numerous industries.
“I actually was kind of scared when I set it up and I got done and pushed the ‘done’ button because I was certain I was biting off more than I can chew. I know all those involved in Ag across the country are hungry to tell their story. We don’t have a voice a lot of times to tell the story,” said Wilson. “Our goal is to kind of get the people who are outside our region to say, ‘You know what? Those people are doing a good job in there. We need to continue farming in the San Joaquin Valley.'”
The money raised from the sale of merchandise will be used to set up educational scholarships for teens wanting to make agriculture a career.
